In-Depth Tea Culture Experience

Hangzhou is the "Tea Capital," and the reputation of Longjing (Dragon Well) tea is world-famous. Experiencing tea culture is the best way to feel Hangzhou's refined, slow-paced lifestyle.

Visit the Core Production Area

uLongjing Village and Meijiawu are the heartland of West Lake Longjing tea. Here, you can see the terraced tea fields, green all year round. Especially around the Qingming Festival, you can witness the busy scene of tea farmers picking and pan-firing the precious "Mingqian" (pre-Qingming) tea.

uThere are many农家乐 (nongjiale, agritainment) homes here. Many farmers will warmly invite you in for a tea tasting and explain the varieties and appreciation of Longjing tea.

Learn to Taste and Purchase

uTo taste authentic West Lake Longjing, observe its shape (flat and smooth), smell its aroma (fresh, delicate, bean-like), and taste its flavor (refreshing, sweet, and mellow). Water temperature should not be too high, around 85°C is ideal.

uIf you wish to buy tea, it's best to do so at official specialty stores or reputable farmers. Pay attention to the origin and grade. Spring is the best time for new tea.

Visit the China National Tea Museum

uThis museum is set within a beautiful landscape that resembles a large tea plantation. It systematically displays the history, varieties, production processes, and customs of Chinese tea. It's not only educational but also a great place to relax.

Traveler's Tips: You can take a bus or taxi to Longjing Village or Meijiawu. Tasting tea at a farmer's home usually involves a fee, but it's reasonable and a great experience. It's okay if you don't wish to buy; simply decline politely.
