“Emotion Between Object and Self — The Luster of Time: Exhibition of Lacquerware, Cloisonné, and Xiangyunsha" will open at Rongbaozhai Guangzhou on October 12th. This exhibition features works from three craft categories: lacquerware, cloisonné, and Xiangyunsha. It aims to capture the eternal theme of "the luster of time" through the erosion and refinement of time. These materials and crafts interpret the close connection between art and time through their subtle material transformations.
Artworks are often regarded as objects of contemplation beyond daily life, yet the utensils, garments, and paintings in this exhibition quietly draw this contemplation back to the tangible realm of everyday existence. When the texture of lacquer becomes the annual rings of a vessel, when the transparency of cloisonné reflects the spectrum of dawn and dusk, and when the indigo spots of Xiangyunsha record the wearer's footsteps, the materials themselves become the scales for measuring time. Together, they reveal a metaphor: so-called "artistic living" is not about suspending beauty above life, but allowing time to manifest in matter, making each luster a touchable historical rhythm.

Espen Berg Trio is an award-winning piano trio from Norway. The ensemble has received enthusiastic responses in concert halls around the world and has been hailed by Jazz Journal as "one of the most outstanding trios of today," having made a notable breakthrough beyond its home country. While their music may evoke styles reminiscent of Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, Shai Maestro, or Tigran Hamasyan, at its core, it represents a personalized interpretation of the piano trio tradition and the development of Nordic jazz—crafting an alluring synthesis through strong melodic lines, complex rhythmic structures, exceptional technical prowess, and highly infectious interactive playing.
Espen Berg Trio frequently tours Europe and Japan, and has released four albums through the Japanese label Blue Gleam. In 2019, the ensemble left a deep impression on jazz industry professionals gathered at the International Jazz Festival (jazzahead!) in Bremen, which kickstarted their India tour and performances at renowned European venues such as London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Their third album, 'Free to Play,' was named one of DownBeat Magazine's Best Releases of 2019. As of spring 2024, the band is working on their fifth album.
